I have been producing illustrations and designs for the past 10 years. I originally started in product design but got more into drawing the products than designing them! From there, I went from product design to technical illustration, producing exploded views, schematic and product renderings for various manufacturing industries and product design consultancies. I took the plunge and went freelance in 1993 to further develop my cartoon, comic, caricature and technical illustration.
Previous clients include; Grangemouth, BP, Halifax IF Internet Bank, Tunnocks the Bakers, Tennents the Brewers, Glenmorangie Whisky, Scottish Brewers, Learning & Teaching Scotland, The Entertainment Company, Ethicon, Dawnfresh Seafoods, The Magic Agency, Ecosse World Express, Albion Automotive and many more.
Severely influenced by comic art as a kid and the futuristic concept art of Stanley Matthews, Roger Dean and Chris Foss. 2000AD was probably the biggest influence, much more interesting than the Marvel stuff which never really did much for me. In terms of caricatures I was inspired by Malky McCormack. I use propelling pencils, fibre tips, coloured pencils, chalk and pantone/magic markers. I still draw by hand but nowadays the drawings tend to be scanned and coloured in the computer. The educational art section reflects this trend and is increasingly used in software applications for educational purposes in schools.
